Hello all, I was very surprised by the response to my Op-Ed on Raw Story, mostly that anyone actually read my 6,500 word narrative on slowly becoming a better person and thinking for myself. I’m incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support and good feedback, and decided to finally commit to this Substack thing that all my mutuals seem to be doing.
First of all, my Linktree where the Weekly Wednesday casual livestream, my appearances, socials, and interviews can be found:
On this Substack, you will find weekly stories from my childhood in the militia right and Oathkeepers, with an eye towards shedding light on what the militant right wing looks and feels like from the inside, and small steps on my journey to breaking out. These will go up on Tuesdays in the afternoon as a rule.
You will also find my Deprogramming essay series, where I will try my level best to explain social justice concepts and positions in language and from an angle that will pierce the reflexive dismissal of people who soak in right wing media narratives. This is inspired by the number of people saying they were passing my Raw Story essay along to friends who were sucked into Trumpism and Q in the hopes of pulling the veil back, and my own small town Letters to the Editor trying to accomplish much the same thing. These in particular I would love feedback on, and for you to spread and copy everywhere.
Finally, since I do have to be mercenary at some point, I will be posting shorter takes multiple times a week on militias, extremism, and politics in the news, along with lighter content like reactions and reviews of right wing fiction, behind a dastardly subscriber fee paywall. Yes, I am wickedly twirling my moustache at the thought of fleecing the good people of the world for their nickels, all for my punchiest short-form content.
What can I say? I like to give the people what they want.
So happy to see you doing this. I will be sure to suggest your substack on mine. Congrats!
Just read your story on the bbc. What an amazing journey you and your family have made! So many people stuck in situations like yours never make it out or it's too late to do much with their lives once they do. I hope you continue to do what makes you happy and enjoy the world around you. Drawing is awesome. Thank you for fighting fires (both literally and philosophically)
