Just read your story on the bbc. What an amazing journey you and your family have made! So many people stuck in situations like yours never make it out or it's too late to do much with their lives once they do. I hope you continue to do what makes you happy and enjoy the world around you. Drawing is awesome. Thank you for fighting fires (both literally and philosophically)
Hi Dakota - I am at the University of Maine and I am doing research on the impact of radicalization/violent extremism on the family. I'm looking to speak with family members/loved ones of persons who have/had become radicalized. If willing, I'd love the opportunity to speak to you about your experiences in this regard. All participants receive compensation for their time ($250 Amazon gift card). And here is a link to my research, just so you can see a brief overview of the project: https://www.unomaha.edu/ncite/research/research-projects/barriers-that-prevent-extremists-families-from-getting-help.php
You have an incredible and inspirational story! You should connect with Derek Black, son of Stormfront founder Don Black, because of the similarity of your stories--he also completely repudiated his father's abhorrent beliefs. Keep up the great work -- you're super smart and a great writer with a bright future ahead of you!
Just read the article about you and your family from the BBC. Really impressed that you were able to find a way out of the cult life your father built and are creating a better one for yourself and your family. It must be a big adjustment. Those who survive childhood traumas often have difficulty learning to socialize with people who’ve have a “normal” upbringing. I wish you the best and hope you find a community of kind and loving people to help you on your new path.
So happy to see you doing this. I will be sure to suggest your substack on mine. Congrats!
